Information

Tsukiya ((つき)(), Tsukiya) also known as The Blind Witch (盲目(もうもく)魔女(まじょ)) or Ohaguro-Bettari (お歯黒(はぐろ)べったり) is an antagonist in The Mimic. She makes a debut in Yoki Town of Jealousy's Book: Chapter I, along with Shosai and Takane, then later reappears in Jealousy's Book: Chapter IV,

Physical Appearance[]

  • Tsukiyaappears to be a creepy woman who wears a tsunokakushi kimono, a grayish-white complexion, and has her black hair tied up into a bun. Her face shows nothing but a big mouth with dark-red lips and blackened sharp teeth. Additionally, she wears two silver hairpins on the top of her bun and a simple crown tsunokakushi on her head. She is also seen with sharp, red nails.

  • Most of her normal mode features are retained, however, her hair becomes white and undone in a straight-like style. Her shiromuku kimono changes to grayish black. Her hair accessories, such as the silver hairpins and tsunokakushi are not present either.

  • She appears to be exactly like her normal counterpart but there is one key difference, her skirt is not a shiromuku but a yukata.

History[]

Not much is known about Tsukiya so far.

In her early life, she was a woman who lived in the Edo Period. It's assumed that she wanted a husband. Unfortunately, she can't get married for two reasons: 1. She's ugly, 2. She's old.

She starts to kill people in a brutal/gory way. It's assumed that her victims are the men that rejected her and the beautiful woman she's jealous of.

To her the moon is beautiful, and she wants to be like the moon. Hence her name meaning "moon and to be".

At some point of her life, Tsukiya blinds herself by burning her eyes. It is assumed she did it because she is tired of seeing beautiful people.

At some point she joined the Kiiroibara Cult.

Personality[]

Tsukiya's personality is confirmed to be extremely ugly. She's evil, cruel, envious and a sadist.

Jumpscare[]

Tsukiya will lunge toward the player's face, catch them and aggressively scream at the player.

Gameplay Appearances[]

Tsukiya appears in Yoki Town, along with Shosai and Takane. She appears as a hostile being and roams The Puzzling Minka while the player(s) try to light the candles that are connected to the correct paintings.

Temperance[]

Normal Mode[]

Decently aggressive and smart: You are still faster than her, so there's a high chance that you can outrun her. But she will always know where you are going due to her intelligent AI, so be aware of that, you can take advantage of her hearing by seeing where she is at and know when to move. The only audio cue is her very quiet footsteps, so sometimes you should stop to hear if she is near you or not.

Nightmare Mode[]

Decently aggressive and very smart: She has a way smarter AI. However, she still has most of her qualities from Normal mode. One of them is Tsukiya slower than you sprinting when she is chasing you.

Trivia[]

  • Tsukiya's design was based on a female Yōkai called "Ohaguro-Bettari."
    • Ohaguro-Bettari means "Nothing but blackened teeth."
  • Tsukiya is the only character in The Mimic who has blackened teeth.
    • Black teeth were also a popular trend between the Heian and Edo Periods called Ohaguro, hence her yokai.
  • Despite being "blind" as stated by Keneo, she is still capable of chasing Isamu if she sees him within her field of vision.
  • She is one of the few monsters without eyes. Some others are Netamo, Kodama or Teiryu.
  • Tsukiya's jumpscare sound was originally supposed to be the jumpscare sound for Rin before she got remodeled to look more menacing.
  • In Nightmare Mode, Tsukiya's hair is Yuma's hair but reshaped.
  • She was shown to be in The City in the trailer but was later moved into Yoki Town. Her being in The City is most likely for featuring her in the trailer and not making her debut there.
  • She will later get a backstory.
  • The name Tsukiya means "full moon" (月弥), with each kanjis meaning "moon" (月) (tsuki) and "all the more, increasingly, extensive, full" (弥) (ya).
    • Her name also means "moon and to be" according to an official Lore Writer. This may be due to her name being incorrectly translated or the kanjis she was meant to have were different.[1]
  • It is highly suggested that Tsukiya is a married, aristocratic woman as she is seen wearing a Shiromuku, a traditional Japanese wedding kimono often worn by brides of traditional samurai families. She also practiced Ohaguro, lit. "teeth blackening", a tradition mainly practiced by married women and some men, almost always members of the aristocracy and samurai.
